DESKPROTO SETUP TROUBLESHOOTING Problem 1: "Failed to create empty document" (CD installation only) The DeskProto release CD is configured to automatically start a program showing the "Install menu". Here you can choose to install, to read manuals, to copy bonus geometry and software, and more. On some old versions of Windows 95 this install menu refuses to start, displaying the error message "Failed to create empty document". In such case you will have to start Setup.exe (at the root of the CD) to install. You can do so using the Run option in the Start menu. Problem 2: Setup quits halfway (dongle version) If the DeskProto Setup quits during installation of the files (when the progress bar is around 16%), Windows is not able to register the DLL 'DpKernel.dll' which is needed to run DeskProto. This might be caused by the absence of 'RegSvr32.exe', which is needed to register this DLL. 'RegSvr32.exe' should be placed in the Windows/System directory. Therefore you have to install a servicepack for your Windows version. Another cause can be that one of the DLL's which are used by 'DpKernel.dll' are absent or of the wrong version. When you use Windows 95 it is most likely that the OpenGL DLL's are missing or of the wrong version. These are needed for graphical drawings. To get the right versions see below. OpenGL for Windows 9x/NT OpenGL 1.1 for Windows 95 is included in the Windows 95 OSR 2 release. The libraries are also available as the self-extracting archive file on the Microsoft ftp site at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe. This contains 'opengl32.dll' which is needed to run OpenGL programs under Win95. Check the READ.ME file for installation instructions. OpenGL 1.1 is bundled with Windows NT 4.0. Problem 3: Changing the system date (trial version) Do not (!) change your system date to any future date during the trial period. This will reduce the trial period and cannot be undone anymore. Also changing the time of the day might lead to problems. DeskProto will give an error message in case you have changed the system date to an earlier date.
