3D Modelling Tools
Create Angled Plane
This feature allows the heights to be defined at two, or three, points in the 2D View.
A plane is then be created (within the area of a vector if selected), which passes through the all
the specified point heights.
Scale Z Preserve Detail
Scale Z Preserve Detail allows independent scaling of relief detail during a relief scaling operation.
This function can be used to prevent 'washing out' of detail when the relief height is reduced.
Triangle Mesh Creation
The Triangle Mesh Creator produces a triangulated model of the relief. The triangles can then be output as an STL
file for Rapid Prototyping. This feature replaces the optional ArtSTL package. The Triangle Mesh Creator is available
from the Create Triangle Mesh button on the Relief Toolbar or in the Relief Operations section of the Assistant.
Triangle meshes can be produced from two ArtCAM reliefs (forming the back and front surfaces). Alternatively
a single relief can be used with a flat back surface (forming a solid) or an offset back surface,
which results in a hollow model of specified wall thickness.
Paste Clipart on a Plane
When pasting 3D clipart into the current relief, there is now an option on the Mode page of the
3D Clipart dialog box that allows the user to define a Start Height onto which the clipart will be pasted.
This feature is particularly useful when used with the Merge Highest option for combining the clipart with the
current relief. A Start Height can be measured from the zero plane, or from the highest point
currently under the clipart. If From Current is selected, ArtCAM Pro will calculate the maximum
Z height of the current relief under the clipart and will use this as a starting plane onto
which the clipart is pasted.
Cross-section from Relief
This tool creates a vector which matches the cross-section of the relief along a specified line.
Use the tool to draw a line in the 2D View. A cross-section vector is then created that matches
the varying height of the relief under the line.
Blend Texture Edges
When texturing a relief under a colour, ArtCAM now allows the edges of the the texture to be smoothly blended
into the existing relief. Simply select the Blend Edges option in the Texture Relief dialog and specify
the distance from the edges over which to apply the blending.
Specify Exact Z Profile in 2-Rail Sweep
The Z modulation curve can now be used to specify the exact (rather than proportional) height of the 2-rail sweep.
This means that the tool can be used to produce pecisely designed full 3D shapes using 2D vector artwork.
